What is On the Run?
On the Run is a running program for youth ages 8-14 that teaches Discipline, Discipleship and Determination, in our efforts to encourage our running youth to be the best that they can be.
On the Run combines the discipline of good running with other creative disciplines and skills. Every day, a running routine may include a combination of running, swimming, cross training, music, drumming, singing, and scripture memorization. We want youth to experience joy in the moment while learning the blessings of hard work.
Each youth progresses through the following:
- Starter: For boys and girls, ages 8-14, the Starter class is for beginners who may have an interest in running for the first time. A Starter can graduate to a Student after 3 months of dedication. Recommended # of days for Maximum Success: 2–3 days/wk
- Student: For boys and girls, ages 8-14, the Student class is for those runners who have decided that they would like to set some goals for their running experience. A Student can become a Specialist after 3 months of dedication. Recommended # of days for Maximum Success: 4 days/wk
- Specialist: For boys and girls, ages 10-14, the Specialist class is for the seasoned runners who are looking to excel at running. Recommended Days for Maximum Success: 5 days/wk
As incentive, our runners run, on average, at least one 5k or other race/month. We have adapted all of our training runs from the Run for Fun Coaches Manual, a running program for adolescent youth that have met with much success. On the Run is a program of C.A.T.E.S. after-School. For a full schedule of programs for C.A.T.E.S. after-School, click here.
